How It Came Together
The custom mix for this project, known as Architectural Grey, was designed in collaboration between decorative concrete supplier Limecrete and DS Grinding. A key aspect of the design was to eliminate yellowing, which is a common occurrence with concrete floors in Perth. The result was a uniform, low maintenance grey polished concrete mix.
Placement of the concrete was undertaken by Steven Bates Concrete. A focus of the placement was to maximise the pour area to reduce the need for joining pours. All window and door rebate areas were set to allow the transitions to sit flush with the finished polished concrete floor.
Completing The Project
The initial stage of the polishing process involved creation of the canvas for minimal exposure, as requested by the client prior to block-wall construction. This enabled the client to choose their desired level of exposure before polishing. Protective custom colour-matched grout was placed to protect the floor during heavy construction.
Caution was required for the exposed blockwork during polishing, due to its porosity and fragility around heavier grinding machinery. At this stage, the client was also able to select their desired level of sheen. DS Grinding moved up in the grit stages to achieve the exact sheen before applying the penetrating sealant.
